The concept is as simple as it is brilliant: a stylish New York–style bistro that combines classic US diner elements with modern finesse. Floor‑to‑ceiling windows, simple wooden benches and a bar counter with steel stools create an urban atmosphere reminiscent of the vibrant metropolis on the Hudson. Matthew Maue: The voice of Bertie
At the helm of the kitchen is Matthew Maue, a Buffalo‑born American chef who has already left his culinary mark at well‑known Berlin hotspots such as Annelies and Distrikt Coffee. With Bertie, Maue is fulfilling his dream of an evening restaurant that brings together his love of American cuisine and Berlin’s laid‑back spirit. His philosophy is clear: elevate American classics with fine details and seasonal ingredients – without losing the fun of eating.
