HYGGE Hamburg

Enjoyment with Heart and Integrity

Anyone who steps into Hygge in Hamburg immediately senses that this place is about more than just good food. It’s about joy, togetherness, and savoring the moment — in the spirit of the Danish concept of hygge, which stands for warmth, comfort, and spending time with family and friends. Located in a former polo horse stable in Hamburg’s green western district, Hygge combines modern brasserie cuisine with a warm, stylish atmosphere. Guests can expect a seasonal menu featuring high‑quality regional ingredients — served family‑style, inviting everyone at the table to help themselves as they please. Whether relaxing on the leather sofas in the lounge, sitting by the fireplace, or enjoying the garden next to the beehives: Hygge is a place designed for feeling good. At the bar, creative bartenders craft excellent drinks — from house-made ginger beer to the award‑winning “HYGGE Spritz.” The wine list, curated by sommelier Lennart Wenk, tells stories of vines and regions, from the Rheingau to South Africa. Hygge has received multiple awards — including “Restaurant of the Year” at the Genuss-Michel and “Best Restaurant Bar” in the Falstaff Bar Guide. And rightly so: because here, life is not only cooked — it’s lived.

The culinary signature of Hygge is shaped by Thomas Nerlich, Head Chef and Culinary Director, who — together with his team — stands not only for flavor, but also for values. The ingredients come from personally known suppliers, and the philosophy is clear: good food begins with good products. When speaking about culinary identity in Hamburg, there is no way around Thomas Nerlich. As Culinary Director of Hygge at Landhaus Flottbek, he shapes the gastronomic character of a place that unites comfort, quality, and honest craftsmanship. His career includes stations with Eckart Witzigmann, at Le Canard, Teschebull, and Die Bank — places where he refined his own culinary signature. We are especially proud that Thomas Nerlich works with our sturgeon from the Müritz fishermen — a product that stands for sustainable aquaculture and exceptional quality. With his expertise, he stages the sturgeon beautifully: finely balanced, aromatic, and handled with great respect for the product. As a partner of the house, we are proud to be part of this culinary journey. Our collaboration with Hygge is shaped by trust, shared values, and the ambition to offer guests a truly memorable taste experience.
